the track features the dulcet (and ever growing in confidence) vocals of tokyo based max essa. the original is a pacey combination of maxs devoesque song, driving drums and the wide-as analog bass synth from the italian duo. are we men? we certainly are.

lnas third release comes from the godfather of the underground all the way from brookyln, new york: namely the legendary jovonn. first tune >a definition of a track< makes use of driving beats combined with ethereal and jazz-like melodies that work together to create a hypnotic atmosphere. second track >space atmosphere< has a more infectious styling, with an ever-progressive melody against a firm groove that grabs the listener and the dance floor. also featuring remixes from the much revered two armadillos, giles smith of secretsundaze and martin dawson (king roc) have turned out a modern classic to nail any peak time dance floor. the second remix comes from the newly formed mankind project. expect more from them this year with two other eps in the pipeline. this ep is something rather special!

man/machine: since their self titled debut album, vienna’s elektro guzzi made an impact on the scene no one could have imagined. being the first ever real techno live band, they took the scene by storm with their unparalleled stage appeal and future-forward sound. rocking clubs like berghain and fabric as well as numerous festivals (including sónar, time warp, spring 10, ade and mutek), it was the headstart of 2010. playing constantly live at countless gigs, plus live and studio appearances with patrick pulsinger and stefan goldmann, elektro guzzi’s music was set on fast forward evolution mode. “extrakt ep” captures the latest state of elektro guzzi’s incredible live sound, recorded in london with the outstanding capabilities of brendon ‘octave’ harding, the trusted engineer of dub legend lee ‘scratch’ perry, and mixed by mega-producer patrick pulsinger. the four cuts capture elektro guzzi’s raw side, turning out dark sexy grooves with an almost indie edge - probably their most danceable and dj friendly studio material to date - specifically produced for the vinyl format

boys and diamonds is unmistakably a pop album but also one that comfortably fits in with kompakts long-standing lineage of genre-refracting releases. you will be hard up find another record that cohesively brings to mind siouxsie rubbing elbows with shabba ranks, giorgio moroder sipping daiquiris in bali, desmond dekker envisioned through skittering footwork, tom tom club sitting in with congotronics, even early madonna produced by chris and cosey. unlikely as all of that sounds, rainbow arabia makes it sound easy. mostly recorded at their home studio in echo park, muppet palace, boys and diamonds was written and produced by the couple with help from their friends in los angeles and beyond. drummer/producer extraordinaire butchy fuego (pit er pat, boredoms, mia) contributes arrangements and beats in places, and icy demons dylan ryan plays on the percussion-heavy island shuffle nothin gonna be undone . the album was mixed at the wonderful hobby shop studios in la by mudrock, who also adds some final production touches on the record. the 11 new songs on the album, were also made possible by the encouragement of peers/heroes in la like former ghosts, fool s gold, secret circuit, abe vigoda, and part time punks dj crew. outside of their hometown, they also found support and inspiration from kindred spirits like pictureplane, spoek mathambo, as well as their new home, the ever-illustrious kompakt

echolettes second release manzanillo 002, follows up with a similar tropical -journey feeling- as felt on echolettes first release, perhaps setting the style for this excellent new label. whereas before it was pygmys and bongos, this time manzanillo has a distinctly more mexican, if not aztec vibe. the original mix kicks off with steady galloping horse like drums and percussion, which is suddenly met by a lovely melodic bassline, which again is doubled up with what sounds like a xylophone. just as your wondering where its all going, a wicked little riff with delayed minimal vocal slices enter the mix keeping the groove going on and on forever and ever... another brilliant and quality piece of music from jackie misfit

the second lowriders recordings release comes courtesy of lowriders collective crew member coco bryce. ever since his split 12 inch with slugabed on myor (coco bryces label) he has been on the radar in beats country. coco bryce has a very distinguishable signature in his sound, which is best described as a mixture of synthetic funk, heavy bass and chopped hip hop beats with a strong dancefloor push. he has been on flyers with noah d, slugabed, mesak, randy barracuda, mweslee, sduk and bass clef amongst others. >dis cam belie< is coco bryces first solo ep and it brings us a varied view on the sound palette of this madman.

danish producer martinez rarely fails to surprise club music lovers with his versatile views on techno and house. his very special enthusiasm enables him to seize new musical territory with every release. with his debut record on cadenza, his house sound develops another depth, a more general view of the ever evolving tension between life and music. the mzuzu ep is all about bass. the bass is all around, the bass gushes into every corner of the club, it pervades concrete and iron. while the low frequencies deal ruthlessly with architecture, they are kind to us humans. the basslines put the dancers in a conforting state of hypnosis which might be an unconscious reminder of the long gone time when one still rested in ones mothers womb. it arouses the memory of a state when one is completely merged with the surroundings. martinez reorganises the structure of house music: the lashing grooves cease to be the center of the tracks. martinez moves the heartbeat of the music from the beats to the bass. its firmness releases the other elements of the tracks, creating a free-spirited feeling. freed from their regular task the grooves are enabled to be rough and open. instead of trying to control the crowd, they ravish us with their liberating energy. the tracks rarely need anything else. the icing on the cake consists in tiny vocal samples. creating an irritating athmosphere, they put us in a state of constant curiosity. disolving completely into the flow of the tracks, the human voices become pure sound. >mzuzu chant< & >adagio< are for the beautiful moments when the dancing crowd detaches itself from time and space
